Conserving Water In Bengaluru

Water shortage is resurfacing as Bengaluru prepares for a scorching summer. Despite numerous difficulties resulting from the city’s elevation, Bengaluru is one of the few cities in the nation with a reliable supply of drinking water thanks to the River Cauvery. According to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage  Board,  the average water supply in Bangalore city is between 100 and 125 lpcd, but the average water demand is close to 150 to 200 lpcd. All 1,450 million litres of water enter the city silently each. Only after water is used in the city, a huge percentage of it is treated and delivered to the areas nearby that are prone to drought. Lakes will be refilled with this used water, groundwater will be recharged, and farmers will have access to it for agricultural production.

According to the reports of the NITI Aayog, 21 cities in the country including Bengaluru will run out of groundwater, if not used consciously. Every drop you conserve today will benefit you in the future.

Why Should We Conserve Water?

Conserving water helps keep nearby lakes, rivers, and river basins clean. Additionally, by conserving water, greenhouse gas emissions related to water treatment and distribution are reduced. In addition to it, it helps to save money on the utility bill.

Conserving water can increase the lifespan of your septic system by lowering soil overload and lowering leak-related contamination. Untreated wastewater may also flow into lakes and rivers as a result of overburdened city and county sewer systems. The likelihood of pollution is inversely correlated with the volume of water that flows through these systems. Society household water conservation has prevented expensive sewage system expansion in some communities.

Water conservation starts at independent home. Below are a few tips to conserve water.

Only start the washer when the washer is fully loaded.

Utilize wool dryer balls to reduce drying time.

So that they don’t need to be washed twice, let stained clothes soak in advance.

Prefill a bucket of water and take bath, instead of using the shower.

Avoid using bathtubs as much as possible.

If you own a villa or a house, plan for a rainwater storage or rainwater harvesting technique.

Inform family members of your water usage at each month’s end. Family members should be encouraged to review these statistics and set a goal to consume less water this quarter than they did last month.

In your garden, you might want to use a drip irrigation system. It minimizes weeding by only providing water to plant roots.

Use only plants that are suitable for the climate and soil in your area. Less suitable varieties might require more water or fertilizer to survive.

Do not allow water to enter the sewage system. Give the soil time to absorb water.

sustainable use of water.

Wherever and whenever possible, recycle your water. Before the water gets hot enough to take a shower, collect it and use it to flush the toilet or water plants. Following, rinse water from cleaning and cooking can be gathered and used to soak other dishes.

These are some of the water conserving methods at the house level. Other methods, such as encouraging the natural regeneration of vegetation, commercial and industrial water conservation practices, wash water recycling, and raising awareness of water conservation is also very important.

Especially homes in Bengaluru, if we don’t conserve water, then definitely we have tough days ahead because saving water saves nature.

Saving water also makes natural disasters like droughts less likely. We must reuse water in proportion to how much more we can save by reducing its consumption. For future generations, water conservation is essential. Unless we become concerned starting today, they won’t have enough access to water.

Conclusion

We must first comprehend that it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve water. No institution or agency of the government can assist us in conserving water unless we want to. The time is ripe to do so now. Water is the basic element of living organisms. Just imagine a life without sufficient water. Tough right? It’s our responsibility to save water.
